Arcola welcomed in the number 11 ranked team in class 1-A, Decatur LSA for their week six game.
A very low scoring game between the two Little Okaw Valley teams as nobody was able to find any points in the first quarter.
Finally, in the second, Arcola’s Daniel Mendoza scored from two yards out for the first score of the game. Conner Strader hit Myles Roberts on a pass to convert the two points and the Purple Riders led 8-0 in the second quarter and into halftime.
The defense battle continued in the second half with nobody scoring in the third quarter and Arcola led by 8 heading to the final quarter against undefeated Decatur LSA.
Late in the fourth, with under five minutes to play, Decatur’s Jackson Allen ran in from 14 yards out and gave the Lions a chance to tie things up with a successful two point conversion.
The conversion was unsuccessful for Decatur LSA and the undefeated was undefeated no more. In a low scoring, 8-6 final, Arcola upset the Decatur LSA Lions in the Little Okaw Valley.
With the win, Arcola is now 4-2 overall on the year and 2-1 in Conference play. The Purple Riders will play at ALAH (2-4) next week.
After the first loss of the season, Decatur LSA drops to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Conference. The Lions will host Cerro Gordo next week.
