Cumberland and Oblong met on Friday night for a week 6 matchup of undefeated teams in the Little Okaw Valley Conference.
Keaton Titus got the scoring going in the first quarter for Cumberland on an eight yard run. The two point conversion failed for the Pirates, they led 6-0 after the first.
Cumberland got on the board again in the second quarter. This time it was a Tanner Kingery run for the touchdown and he also ran in the two point conversion to lead 14-0 in the second quarter.
Oblong’s Dawson Maus got the Panthers in the endzone for the first time. His five yard run, with the extra point kick good, cut Cumberland’s lead in half. The Pirates led 14-7 at halftime.
Cumberland extended their lead in the third quarter on an 83 yard pass from Donsbach to Tyson Magee and after the Titus run for the two point conversion, Cumberland again led by two possessions, 22-7.
An Oblong fumble recovery and 14 yard return put Oblong within striking distance again in the third quarter. It was 22-14 heading into the fourth.
Titus had a short two yard run to find the endzone again and Ryan Yaw’s run gave Cumberland the 30-14 lead in the fourth and that’s what it ended at.
With the win, Cumberland improves to 3-3 overall and stays perfect in conference play at 3-0. The Pirates host Tri-County (1-5) next week.
After the loss, Oblong drops to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Panthers will host Villa Grove (3-3) who is undefeated in the conference.
