Shelbyville took on winless Meridian in Central Illinois Conference play on Friday night.
Shelbyville had no trouble finding the endzone in this one. In the first, Turner Pullen ran in from 4 yards out for the first score of the game. The two point conversion failed, the Rams led 6-0 after the first.
In the second, it was a pass this time from Pullen to Cade Watson from 26 yards out for the touchdown. Pullen’s run on the two point conversion was successful, Shelbyville led 14-0 in the first half.
The first half scoring was not over quite yet though for Shelbyville. This time, Pullen again on the ground, ran it in from 29 yards out with a failed two point conversion. At halftime, Shelbyville led Meridian 20-0.
Shelbyville did not take off the gas pedal in the third quarter. A 6 yard run from Tyler Gottfriedt, a 30 yard pass from Pullen to Beck, then a four yard pass from the same duo, racked up 22 points in the third quarter and the Rams led comfortably, 44-0.
Meridian was able to get some points on the board in the fourth quarter, but did not have nearly enough time for a comeback. Meridian’s Braeden Durbin caught a 10 yard pass from Cameron Getz for the only Hawks score of the game.
Shelbyville won easily, 44-6.
With the win, Shelbyville improves to 4-2 on the season and 3-1 in Conference play. The Rams will host Clinton (3-3) next week.
With the loss, Meridian remains without a win this season at 0-6 and 0-4 in the Conference. The Hawks will host Warrensburg-Latham next week.
