From WCIA, for an unknown number of years the grave marker of World War One veteran and marine Sgt. Clyde Maham has been missing from the Rantoul, IL cemetery. It was found just a year and a half ago in Saint Joseph by George Haworth, another marine.
Haworth made it his mission to find where this piece of history belonged. According to Haworth, it took very little convincing for the local veterans to get in uniform to honor Maham. The marker was rededicated in a service at the Rantoul cemetery.
Haworth’s wife said that for the last year and a half, the marker has gone nearly everywhere with him. Haworth said that he was sad to let go of it, but he’s glad to see it where it belongs. “It had to go home, and now it is, and that’s priceless.”
