According to a recent press release from Illinois State Police District 10, a property damage crash occurred Monday, October 24th around 11:50 AM along Interstate 57 Northbound and just north of Interstate 72 in Champaign County. The driver of the vehicle was Glynn C. Dennis of Catawissa, MO and no passengers were with the driver at the time of the incident.
According to the press release, the driver of the semi has lost control while traveling on the ramp from westbound I-72 to northbound I-57. That caused the tractor and trailer to roll into its driver’s side blocking both northbound lanes of I-57. The semi van trailer than split open spilling its contents of 16,000#’s of plastic pallets onto the roadway.
This then caused a blockage of traffic on all northbound lanes, where traffic was diverted eastbound along I-72. At 1:55 PM one lane northbound opened and both I-72 eastbound and westbound to I-57 remained closed for clean up. At 2:37 PM westbound I-72 to I-57 northbound open when the initial traffic back-up cleared. All lanes were open at 5:30 PM.
The driver of the vehicle suffered no injuries due to the incident and was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
