From WCIA, the ice we were supposed to be dealing with didn’t hit nearly as hard as expected. First responders never taky icy weather lightly, but although they were fully prepared for the calls, they weren’t too busy.
There were some calls Saturday morning about accidents on I-57, and one in the afternoon near Rantoul. The other couple of calls one crew had were only low-level emergency calls that were not ice-related.
After similar conditions produced many more wrecks last month, they were expecting the same this time around. One EMT said that the reason there were fewer incidents is that the ice cleared more quickly and people were being more careful after last month.
