(Washington, DC) — The U.S. may be stepping up its involvement in the war in Syria. U.S.-led coalition forces bombed pro-Syrian regime forces Thursday that officials say were advancing towards a base used by elite U.S. troops for training operations. Two U.S. aircraft were sent as a “show of force” to get the militia vehicles to turn around. When that failed, the airstrike hit the convoy as it continued towards the base in southern Syria.
It’s the first deliberate airstrike against pro-regime forces since the missile strike in April in retaliation for Syria using chemical weapons against rebel forces.
