A resident of St. Charles, MO faces multiple charges after falling asleep at the wheel during the early morning hours of Friday, June 2nd along I-70, eastbound, just 4 miles west of Effingham.
Preliminary details from the Illinois State Police District 12 indicate James D. Donaldson, 47, of St. Charles was traveling east when he fell asleep leaving the north side of the roadway and crossing the median into the westbound lanes of traffic. After traveling east in the west lanes for a bit, he then returned to the median then crossed back east before exiting the south side of the road, crossing a ditch, striking a cable fence and coming to a rest in a corn field.
Donaldson was transported to St. Anthony Hospital and was charged with improper lane usage, driving while fatigued, DUI, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia
