The Illinois House held a Committee of the Whole session Tuesday dealing with a possible Illinois Department of Transportation shutdown if a budget is not agreed upon this week. This morning, the House Revenue Committee heard from the head of the lottery concerning Illinois’ expulsion from Multi-State Lottery Games because of the lack of a budget.
This morning on the House floor, State Representative David Harris (R-Arlington Heights) who is the Republican spokesman on the Revenue and Finance Committee, spoke to his colleagues about both situations. Harris said it is bad enough what the General Assembly is doing when it comes to a lack of a budget, but he said the situation with IDOT and the lottery is one where the funds are already there, sitting, waiting…..all it takes is for an appropriation to be passed by the legislature and signed by the Governor. Harris called it the “height of political stupidity” and when it comes to the lottery “we are screwing around with the goose that lays the golden egg.”
