(Chicago, IL) — Governor Rauner is working to stop the Illinois House from following the Senate and overriding his changes to a school funding reform bill. Rauner calls the Sunday Senate override a “terrible mistake,” and defended the changes he made to the bill. He said he wants to end the practice of Chicago diverting funds into special tax districts called TIFs, then forcing the rest of the state to make up for the lost school revenue. He says it’s a bailout to Chicago that isn’t fair to other districts. Rauner denied that the changes in the bill would hurt Chicago school children, even though his administration’s analysis shows that the city would get more than 460-million-dollars less under his revisions.
