(Washington, DC) — The Trump administration is killing a program that allowed children escaping violence in Central America to settle in the U.S. The Department of Homeland Security published a notice today that it was immediately terminating the Central American Minors Program, which began in 2014 under the Obama administration. The program was started in response to the tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors that were showing up at the U.S.-Mexico border. More than 2700 children from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras who were awaiting approval under the program will have their applications for entry into the U.S. cancelled.
