(Chicago, IL) — Governor Rauner has scored a rare victory over House Speaker Mike Madigan when the House failed to override a Rauner veto. The bill in question would bar local governments from passing anti-union, right-to-work ordinances. Governor Rauner calls the bill anti-business, but State Representative Kathleen Willis of Northlake argued for a House override. She says unions protect workers from abusive employers. The override failed by one vote. Rauner’s win may be short-lived because the sponsor, State Representative Marty Moylan plans to file a new bill during the veto session next month.
