(Chicago, IL) — Governor Rauner is amping up his campaign rhetoric as a GOP primary challenger officially enters the race. State Representative Jeanne Ives of Wheaton has filed her nominating petitions, but Rauner calls her a fringe candidate and says he’s the only Republican who can win. He said his fight is with Democrat House Speaker Michael Madigan, and Madigan has been in charge of Illinois, not him. He claims that if he’d been in charge, Illinois would have more jobs, lower taxes and term limits. Rauner accuses Madigan of rigging the political system and becoming a millionaire profiting from the state’s high property taxes.
