A winter storm is dumping snow on New England and New York today on Christmas. Maine is getting hit particularly hard with heavy snow from what’s being called Winter Storm Ethan. The Northeast has dealt with snowfall, lightning and strong winds. But, the snowfall is coming to an end in many parts of the Northeast away from the snowbelts in Upstate New York. More than a foot of snow has fallen in Maine, where heavy, blowing snow with occasional bursts of thunder has persisted. This morning, snow fell at a rate of one-inch per hour in the Boston area, prompting a shutdown of the airport’s runways due to zero visibility. High wind warnings have been posted for all of coastal southeast New England and winter storm warnings continue in downeast Maine.
