(Undated) — Expect a very cold New Year’s Eve as arctic air dives through the United States this week. Forecasters say a new frigid blast is expected to make its way from the northern Plains to the eastern and southern U.S. from Sunday into Monday and 2018. Over the weekend, temperatures in Minneapolis are expected to be zero. Those heading out Sunday night to welcome the new year will need to bundle up in places like Chicago where the temperature will be a high of 15 — about 15 degrees below normal. Nashville and Atlanta will experience temperatures 20 degrees below average by the end of the weekend. High temperatures are expected to remain below 30 degrees.
By the time the new year arrives in a freezing cold Big Apple, forecasters say the temperature in Times Square when the ball drops Sunday night will be around 11 degrees.
