(Bentonville, AR) — Walmart is closing dozens of its Sam’s Club locations across the nation, with some closing immediately. “Business Insider” reports 63 Sam’s Club stores are closing and thousands of workers are losing their jobs. Sam’s Club tweeted today, “After a thorough review of our existing portfolio, we’ve decided to close a series of clubs and better align our locations with our strategy.” Some employees showing up for work today were not informed their store was closing. The store closures occurred the same day the company announced it was raising starting hourly wages for Walmart employees to 11-dollars, expanding employee benefits, and offering workers bonuses of up to one-thousand dollars.
Sam’s Club added in its Twitter message that “Closing clubs is never easy and we’re committed to working with impacted members and associates through this transition.”
