(Chicago, IL) — Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is reporting that identity theft is the top consumer complaint received by her office last year. It’s the first time since 2007 that ID theft is the most frequent complaint. Madigan says data breaches like the one at Equifax that affected nearly 150-million Americans resulted in more than 25-hundred complaints to the AG’s office. She encourages those at risk to put a credit freeze on their credit reports. Student loan complaints were second on Madigan’s list. That was followed by complaints about collection agencies, construction companies, cable and satellite TV and phone scams.
