Defense Secretary Jim Mattis is warning Syria it would be “unwise” for government forces to use gas attacks, pointing to reports of chlorine attacks against rebels and civilians in eastern Ghouta. Speaking to reporters before a visit to Oman Sunday, Mattis also blasted Russian support for supporting the Syrian government’s attacks on civilians. Russia has been a staunch ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the year-long civil war that has decimated the country.
