(Chicago, IL) — The Illinois Department of Public Health is confirming a second death linked to synthetic pot. Fifty-six people who have used synthetic cannabinoids have ended up in hospitals with severe bleeding, and now two have died. The cases are concentrated in Cook County and around Peoria. Public Health spokeswoman Melaney Arnold says some people think “fake weed” is safe, but it’s actually filled with unknown chemicals, including one used in rat poison. Synthetic cannabinoids are sprayed onto dried plant material, then either smoked or vaped.
