(Washington, DC) — Senator John McCain is praising President Donald Trump for his actions against Syria over its latest use of chemical weapons. The Arizona Republican released a statement saying the airstrikes against the Assad regime sends a message that the cost of using chemical weapons outweighs any perceived benefit. McCain also called on Trump to set up a comprehensive strategy in both Syria and the Middle East. He said while airstrikes may be necessary, they alone will not achieve U.S. objectives in the region.

(Arlington, VA) — Defense Secretary James Mattis says a wave of precision airstrikes against Syrian targets is over. The military operation was a response to the recent, deadly chemical weapons attacks in Syria. In a Pentagon briefing tonight, Mattis said no further airstrikes are planned at this time. Great Britain and France joined the U.S. in the Syria operation, which focused on three targets. Mattis said the aim was to destroy Syria’s chemical weapons infrastructure. He argued that the Syrian regime is guilty of violating international laws.
Mattis called on all civilized nations to unite against the Syrian regime. He said the allies went to great lengths to avoid civilian and foreign casualties. Mattis noted that there have been no reports of U.S. casualties. Meantime, Russian forces are in Syria and Joint Chiefs Chairman Joe Dunford said precautions were taken to avoid hitting them. He said Russia was not notified about the impending strikes.

UPDATED: Trump Announces “Precision Strikes” Against Targets In Syria
(Washington, DC) — Precision U.S. missile strikes are being launched against targets in Syria. President Trump announced the actions during a speech to the nation tonight. Trump said the strikes are a response to the recent, deadly chemical weapons attacks in Syria. It is a joint operation with Britain and France. Trump blamed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for the chemical attacks. He said, “These are not the actions of a man, they are crimes of a monster.” The attacks have raised tensions with Russia, which is a key Assad ally.
Iran is another top ally of the Assad regime. President Trump asked Iran and Russia if they want to be associated with mass murder. Assad and Russia have denied involvement in the chemical weapons attacks. Dozens of people were killed in the attacks on a town outside Damascus. Meantime, there are roughly two-thousand American ground troops in Syria. They are part of the coalition that has been combating ISIS in the war-torn nation.

(Washington, DC) — The United States, France, and the United Kingdom are launching joint strikes against Syria, and huge explosions are lighting up the skies of Syria’s capital city of Damascus. In an evening statement, President Trump said the strikes are aimed at Syrian targets associated with chemical weapons. Trump has been mulling the U.S. response to a Syrian chemical attack for days. The attack killed dozens of people in a town outside Damascus.
