(Atlanta, GA) — The CDC is expanding its warning about an E. coli outbreak involving romaine lettuce. The previous E. coli warning was for chopped forms of romaine including salads and salad mixes. The new warning covers all forms of romaine lettuce including whole heads and hearts grown in the Yuma, Arizona, region. The CDC says 31 people have been hospitalized because of the E. coli outbreak and five people have developed kidney failure. Officials say this strain of E. coli can cause severe stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhea, which is often bloody.
