(Undated) — A woman is suing NASA in an effort to ensure the space agency doesn’t seize a vial of moon dust. Laura Cicco says Neil Armstrong, who was a family friend of her late father, gave her the moon dust in the 1970’s along with a handwritten note addressed to her. Last week, Cicco filed the lawsuit against NASA which has a history of seizing lunar material from citizens. NASA hasn’t confiscated the moon dust yet and Cicco says it’s in safekeeping. Experts have tested the sample and found that it may have originated from the moon. Experts say the outcome of Cicco’s case will depend on whether Armstrong or the government owned the dust at the time it was given away. NASA has to respond to the lawsuit within 60 days.
