(Washington, DC) — Several Senators are not happy that Google could not send a senior official to hearings on social media. An empty chair was set up to represent Google at today’s Senate hearing. The company did offer to send its chief legal officer and senior vice president of global policy. Facebook sent its chief operating officer and Twitter sent its CEO, who both testified. Senators expressed their frustration that Google skipped the hearing. Members of both houses asked about a wide range of topics, from foreign governments trying to use their platforms to influence U.S. elections to censoring viewpoints.
