(Lawrence, MA) — The president of the gas company is defending their response to a series of explosions and fires in Boston suburbs on Thursday. Columbia Gas President Steve Bryant said the company plans to shut off gas to all of its customers in the Merrimack Valley.

One person died and 25 others were injured during explosions and fires to almost 100 structures in Andover, North Andover and Lawrence. Bryant said he anticipates having gas shut off to all homes by Sunday and residents will be able to return home then. He said the National Transportation Safety Board is taking over the investigation to determine what caused the multiple explosions.
