According to Illinois State Police, there was a traffic crash that occurred in Champaign County on Interstate 57 northbound near Milepost 238 late Friday morning. Preliminary crash details state that Trevar C. Fischer, Male, 37 of Ferdinand Indiana, who was driving a Blue 2000 Peterbilt Truck Tractor with Livestock Semi Trailer, merged onto I-57 northbound from I-74 when Kirankumar V. Topudurti, Male, 59 of Champaign, driving a Maroon 2017 Acura Utility, was struck. Fischer was attempting to merge into the right lane, the lane Topudurti was traveling in. Fischer struck Topudurti, sending him into the center median and across both lanes of southbound I-57, coming to a rest facing southbound on the exit ramp of I-57 and I-74. Fischer lost control and rolled over onto the driver side, with the trailer, coming to a rest on its side in the center median. The truck tractor came to a rest on its side in the northbound lanes of traffic. Topudurti was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, Fischer reported no injuries, and was issued a citation for improper lane usage.
