According to Illinois State Police, there was a fatal traffic crash in Shelby County late Monday afternoon. Preliminary investigation details state that a 2002 green dodge truck driven by Edward Derler, 74, of Ramsey, Illinois was traveling northbound on US 51 near county road 000N when a hay mower the dodge truck was pulling hit the guard rail, causing the truck and mower to veer into the opposite lane of traffic, striking a 1999 Silver Chevrolet Van head-on. The driver, 28 female of Pana, Illinois, was killed from the collision, and Derler was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Derler was cited for improper lane usage. All subjects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
