Around 100 Veterans Test Positive With Coronavirus
(Undated) — About 100 U.S. veterans are infected with the coronavirus. Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie says between 60 and 65 of those with COVID-19 are in isolation quarantined at home. Wilkie says anybody who walks through the doors of a VA center is being screened for coronavirus symptoms and the department is taking an aggressive approach to responding to the outbreak. The VA has eliminated all elective surgeries in an effort to ensure hospital supplies remain stable. Much of the VA’s focus is on suicide prevention and Wilkie says that has not stopped amid the pandemic. He says mobile mental health centers are being deployed and the VA remains a top leader in telehealth. The VA’s online education services have also gone uninterrupted.
