McConnell Says Talks Are Underway On Stimulus Bill
(Washington, DC) — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says talks are underway with Democrats on a massive stimulus bill and he expects an agreement to be reached by the end of today. The Kentucky Republican said he expects a procedural vote on the bill by the end of tomorrow. A final vote for passage would come on Monday. McConnell said the Trump administration is participating in the discussions. The centerpiece of the plan is to give Americans direct cash payments. They also are working on a way to get money to small businesses so they don’t need to lay off workers. The third part of the plan is to give targeted loans to businesses that have been hardest by the pandemic. The final part of the bill is to increase funding to deal with the medical crisis caused by the COVID-19 virus.
