State Elections Board Reaches Out To Champaign Clerk Over Issues
(Urbana, IL) — The Illinois State Board of Elections is calling out the Champaign County Clerk. The board says Aaron Ammons tabulated early votes the night before Election Day last week, in violation of state law. The board’s general counsel said in a letter to Ammons that the issue is one in a series of voting irregularities in Champaign County that has occurred in relation to the election; issues with mail voting, public testing of voting equipment and the order of certain candidates on ballots were also alleged. The state board says the incidents have increased scrutiny of the clerk’s office.
