Young Adults In Kentucky Hold “Coronavirus Party”
(Frankfort, KY) — At least one person in Kentucky is infected with COVID-19 after participating in a recent “coronavirus party.” Governor Andy Beshear says the group, all young adults, got together deliberately in defiance of the state’s social distancing guidance, thinking they were invincible. He called it “stupid,” but the conservative website The Federalist responded by suggesting that “coronavirus parties” are akin to “chickenpox parties” commonly held in the 1950s. Twitter found that notion so reckless that it froze the website’s account. Dr. Arthur Caplan, a bioethicist at NYU School of Medicine, said the idea of deliberately trying to infect yourself with a lethal virus to build up your immune system is pretty close to “advising homicide.”
