Illinois Healthcare Worker Shortage Worsening
(Springfield, IL) — Officials say the healthcare worker shortage in Illinois is worsening. Illinois Nurses Association President Doris Carroll says the state is experiencing chronic short-staffing during the pandemic, especially among nurses. Carroll says about half of the state’s nurses are nearing retirement age, which will cause a drastic drop in the number of workers able to care for patients. Governor J.B. Pritzker extended an executive order on Friday allowing officials to bring in certified and qualified nurses from out of state to help staff hospitals.
