Thursday, November 5, 2020, Ed Dowd, Executive Director of the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce was a guest on 101.3 WMCI. Here is a brief description of what he covered during the interview:
- The Graduated Income Tax proposal, commonly known as the “Fair Tax” was defeated by Illinois voters. The Governor backed committee conceded defeat with 55% of voters against the proposal. The Illinois Chamber of Commerce and many business organizations were opposed to the tax. The Illinois Chamber was concerned that the tax would not only affect the wealthiest Illinoisians but place businesses on a flat rate that would equal the third highest in the Nation at over 10%
- Mattoon Tourism will be holding the Veterans Day Parade at 10:00 am next Wednesday the 11th starting at 21st and Broadway headed east to Peterson Park.
- Speaking of Peterson Park, Lightworks officially kicks off on November 19th from 5pm – 7pm, where the public has a unique opportunity to walk through the typical driving path to get a close up view of all the displays. Last year they had over 800 people take advantage of this relaxed perspective.
