Illinois Hitting Record Unemployment Numbers During Pandemic
(Springfield, IL) — Illinois is hitting record unemployment numbers during the pandemic. The Illinois Department of Employment Services Director Kristin Richards reported yesterday that the number of people to seek benefits during the pandemic is four times higher than during the 2008 recession. IDES also say that 16 times more benefit payments were made in 2020 so far than from the same time in 2019. Federal benefits from the CARES Act are set to expire on December 26th, with no sign of an extension from Congress.
