List Of White House, Administration Resignations Still Growing After Capitol Siege
(Washington, DC) — The list of White House and Trump administration resignations is still growing after the siege at the Capitol. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao tops the list. She is the wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Chao condemned the attack on the Capitol in a statement and said the actions of pro-Trump activists trouble her in a way she cannot ignore. Former White House Chief of Staff and current Northern Ireland Special Envoy Mick Mulvaney told CNBC that he “can’t stay” after what happened.
Mulaney expects further resignations, saying — “We didn’t sign up” for what happened at the Capitol. Mulvaney is also a former budget chief in the Trump White House. Vox is reporting that National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien had to be talked out of resigning. Deputy National Security Adviser Matt Pottinger stepped down, along with top economic adviser Tyler Goodspeed. Stephanie Grisham, First Lady Melania Trump’s chief of staff, has resigned, along with the White House social secretary and two deputy press secretaries.
Pro-Trump activists breached security and broke into the Capitol Wednesday, prompting lawmakers to scurry to safe locations as they tried to ratify the results of the presidential election. They resumed their work hours later and formally ratified the election of Democrat Joe Biden. Deputy Assistant Commerce Secretary John Costello has also resigned, saying in a statement that the Capitol siege was “incited by a sitting President.”
