For Immediate Release – January 7, 2021
The evening of January 6th, 2021 at 20:43 hours the Mattoon Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire in the 1400 block of Annis.
On arrival at 20:47 hours crews observed smoke coming from the front of the structure. The occupant of the residence advised that she had returned home and found the house on fire, there were no occupants inside the residence at the time. Crews entered the structure, located and extinguished the fire, keeping the fire to the room of origin. Additional crews ascended to the second story to check for fire extension. There was extensive heat and smoke damage throughout the entire residence, and water damage in the room of origin. No injuries were reported to either the occupants, or firefighters.
Department fire investigators then began to investigate the cause and origin of the fire. This fire is still under investigation however, it appears to be accidental in nature at this time. Crews cleared the scene at 23:17 hours.
The Mattoon Fire Department was assisted by Charleston Fire Department, Coles-Moultrie 911, Mattoon Police Department, and Ameren.
