Thursday, January 14, 2021, Ed Dowd, Executive Director of the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce was a guest on 101.3 WMCI. Here is a brief description of what he covered during the interview:
- The Department of Economic Opportunity recently announced all of the first and second round recipients of the Business Interruption Grant Program (BIG). This program was very beneficial to many area businesses. 26 different businesses in Coles County received anywhere from $5,000 up to $150,000 in funds to help them get through the pandemic. The most noteworthy recipient was the Mattoon Area Family YMCA which received $150,000. They have been basically closed to the public for over 9 months and this will help them be able to continue to serve the community once the pandemic restrictions are lifted. Many other organizations including restaurants, drinking establishments and hotels also received much needed funding support.
- OSF Healthcare announced they will be opening up a On Call Urgent Care Facility in Mattoon. This will enhance the options available from Sarah Bush and HSHS Healthcare in the community. One of the possible locations would be in the Mattoon Marketplace on Charleston Avenue.
