The Charleston Police Department is warning of a surge in thefts of catalytic converters from vehicles. The department encourages you to park in well-lit areas or near building entrances where many people can see it. If you have a garage, keep your vehicle parked inside with the door shut. Other suggestions are video surveillance; a catalytic converter-specific security device; engraving the car’s VIN on the converter; or adjusting the system on your vehicle to be activated by vibrations, such as those made by a saw.
