For Immediate Release – April 28, 2021
June 5th at 8:00 a.m. at Ryan Bridge, north of Greenup bring your canoe or kayak and take the Embarras river to the boat launch in Greenup. The Life Center of Cumberland County has held this event for 35 years. This will be number 36.
Participants get to enjoy a day floating down the river from the Ryan Bridge to the Greenup Bridge, a trip of about 10 miles. Sometimes the river is in high water adding to the adventure while at other times, participants have had to get out and walk while carrying their equipment when the river is low. Either way it’s a challenge.
All that’s required is to raise money for the Life Center. Each two-member team of canoers is asked to raise a minimum of $75 in pledges and each kayaker, $40. Then bring the pledge sheet and funds raised with you on race day. Applications and forms are available through the Life Center office at 507 E. Main St. in Toledo or by calling 849-3965.
Things to bring include your own canoe/kayak, life jackets, sunglasses, sun block, drinks and insurance. The first-place canoe/kayak teams will be awarded a trophy and $50, second place, a trophy and $25 and third place will receive a trophy and $15.
We appreciate all of your efforts and your willingness to raise funds for this worthy cause. Funds go to support the many programs offered to seniors in Cumberland and Clark counties. We have not been able to hold some of our regular fundraisers this year, so this effort is even more important.
