Thursday, May, 6, 2021, Ed Dowd, Executive Director of the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce was a guest on 101.3 WMCI. Here is a brief description of what he covered during the interview:
- The Paycheck Protection Program– Funds from the program have been exhausted. The SBA announced that the program that was supposed to run through May 31st is out of funds. The program has been very beneficial to Mattoon businesses with well over $25 million in forgivable loans received by nearly 500 different organizations.
- Hidden Gem– In the basement of the Mattoon Public Library there is a hidden treasure. Chris Suerdick, who is a retired volunteer at the library has created a remarkable Mattoon history museum which has multiple rooms of artifacts, pictures drawings and even an original phone booth that was in the private collection of Dick Lumpkin from Consolidated Communications. With restrictions being loosened nearly every week, now is a great time to visit the library and especially the history museum. You won’t be disappointed. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm.
- It was great to see all the support of our local Mexican Restaurants with Cinco de Mayo. Please keep shopping, dining and utilizing local services. Always Think Local First!
