Thursday, May 20, 2021, Ed Dowd, Executive Director of the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce was a guest on 101.3 WMCI. Here is a brief description of what he covered during the interview:
- Great News for our local businesses: Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced on Monday that the state’s mask mandate is changing following new guidance for fully vaccinated people from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Pritzker said he is issuing an updated executive order that will remove the mask requirement for fully vaccinated residents in most settings and the Illinois Department of Public Health “is rescinding emergency rules in the Control of Communicable Disease Code that enforce masking and distancing for vaccinated people in business settings.” The CDC and Illinois Officials said unvaccinated residents should continue wearing masks in most settings and residents should continue wearing masks on public transportation, in congregate facilities and in healthcare settings regardless of their vaccination status.
- Please be understanding and respectful of businesses which still require mask wearing. Whether it is a Corporate decision or a local decision to protect their associates, some businesses will still require masks. Remember it is rarely the workers who you come in contact with that make these decisions, so show them some kindness and respect, in most cases they are short handed and doing the best they can.
- Please remember now that the weather is heating up it is critical to shop, dine and support local businesses. Nearly every local business struggled through the pandemic for over a year, they need your patronage to get back to normal. Remember to give yourself a little extra time to visit them as well. Most are short handed and thanking them will brighten their day!
