Juneteenth Bill Passed By Illinois Lawmakers
(Springfield, IL) — A bill to make Juneteenth a state holiday awaits Governor J.B. Pritzker’s signature. This comes after state lawmakers passed the legislation over the weekend. Juneteenth, which falls on June 19th, marks the anniversary in 1865 when Black people in Texas learned they were freed by the Emancipation Proclamation.
