State Rep. Chris Miller: Sex education bill indecent and not age appropriate
Springfield, IL – The House gave final approval to new sex education standards that State Representative Chris Miller (R-Oakland) says goes well beyond the realm of science and biology.
“I do not understand the left’s obsession with sexualizing kids at earlier and earlier ages,” Miller said. “The curriculum they are requiring schools to teach is explicit and borderline pornographic.”
Senate Bill 818 was approved without a single Republican vote in either chamber. The legislation would require schools to adopt the National Sex Education Standards. Under the latest iteration of the standards students starting in 6th grade would be taught how to define the meaning of oral and anal sex, and third graders would be taught concepts such as masturbation.
“The proponents want to label critics of this bill as prudes,” Miller said. “Since when has it become prudish to think third graders don’t need to learn about how to pleasure themselves sexually. This legislation is perverted and wrong. We should not be sexualizing our kids. We absolutely should be teaching our kids science and biology, reading, real history, writing and math. We should not be using textbooks that read like the transcripts of Harvey Weinstein’s trial. Governor Pritzker should veto this terrible legislation.”
Senate Bill 818 moves to the Governor’s desk for further consideration.
