ERBA Head Start to Hold Sign Up Day for the 2021-2022 School Year in Coles County
If you have a child between the ages 3-5 who will not go to Kindergarten in the fall, live in Coles County and would like your child to receive comprehensive preschool services, Head Start may be the place for your child!
Head Start is a federally funded preschool program providing free services to children and their families. Head Start helps your child develop his/her skills for kindergarten. Since the program began in 1965, Head Start has provided educational, parent involvement, social, medical, dental, nutritional, mental health and disability services to over 37 million low-income children and their families throughout the United States for over 56 years. Also, Head Start reserves 10% of its slots for children with disabilities.
The Mattoon Head Start center is in session Tuesday through Friday. It serves a total of 46 children. There are two classes of 15 and one class of 16. Their hours are 8:30am to 3:30pm. The Charleston centers are in session Tuesday through Friday as well. They serve a total of 32 children, 17 in one class and 15 in the other. Their hours are also 8:30am to 3:30pm. Meals are provided, and transportation is available for most children in the Mattoon and Charleston area.
If you are interested in signing up your child for Head Start, please attend our Summer Pre-school sign up day on Wednesday, July 14th from 10am to 6pm at the Mattoon center. Head Start staff members will be present to assist you in completing an application on your child and to answer any questions you may have.
In order to complete an application, you will need to bring the following items:
An up-to-date shot record for your child.
Proof of your household income.
A Medicaid card (if you have one).
Date of Birth for everyone in your household.
Your child’s birth certificate from the Court House.
Your child’s social security number
