A Fayette County sex offender will remain in the custody of the Illinois Department of Human Services after a jury ruled him to be a Sexually Violent Person. 51-year-old Michael Boaz, of Vandalia, was convicted in 2004 to two years in prison for sexually abusing his granddaughters who were under 12 at the time. Less than two years after his release, he was sentenced to seven years in prison for sexually abusing the 15-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son of his then-girlfriend. Boaz also has three battery convictions and another for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
