Illinois State Police Investigate Shooting on Interstate 74
Champaign, IL – Illinois State Police (ISP) officials are investigating a shooting, which occurred on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Interstate 74 eastbound near Lincoln Avenue, Champaign County.
ISP officers responded to a local area hospital after being notified the hospital was treating a walk-in gunshot victim who advised they had been shot on Interstate 74 eastbound near Lincoln Avenue. The driver of the victim vehicle, a 22-year-old male of Rantoul, IL, sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by gun fire.
Preliminary reports indicate the shots were fired from an unknown vehicle traveling eastbound on Interstate 74 near Lincoln Avenue. The events surrounding the shooting remain under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
