Weekly Jobless Claims Rise To 353,000
(Washington, DC) — Weekly jobless claims have taken a surprising turn up. Labor Department figures out this morning show 353-thousand Americans filed first-time claims for unemployment benefits last week. That’s four-thousand more than the previous week’s revised total. Analysts had forecast 336-thousand workers would file clams, which would have been the lowest weekly total since the pandemic started. The biggest increases in claims were in Virginia, New Mexico, the District of Columbia, Georgia, and Nevada. The biggest drops were in Texas, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, and Massachusetts.
