Thursday, August 26, 2021, Ed Dowd, Executive Director of the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce was a guest on 101.3 WMCI. Here is a brief description of what he covered during the interview:
Details on two new manufacturing facilities GDB International and North American Lighting.
- GDB International – industrial recycling firm bought the facility, plans to invest an additional roughly $6 million in renovations and put 75 jobs on site within 18-24 months. They took over the former trailmobile facility and will be improving the rail spur as well as the buildings.
North American Lighting will soon begin operating in Mattoon. They’re moving into the former 75K Justrite facility in the Mattoon Enterprise Park.They are spending $5 million on the project, $2 million on equipment. They’re bringing their “service” parts division for replacement lamps to Mattoon and will create 25-30 new positions when operations begin in October. Plans are to eventually move the entire service parts division out of their other 3 locations and grow it here in Mattoon where they may double the footprint of the building and have 100 people employed by the end of 2022.
- Everyone should mark their calendars. Celebrate Downtown Mattoon Trunk or Treat will be back on Friday October 29th. We are expanding it to 14th and Broadway to the Train Depot. Celebrate Downtown Christmas will take place on Friday December 3rd. Stay tuned for all the details!
