Anna-Jonesboro’s Request To Use COVID-19 Relief Funds For Turf Rejected
(Anna, IL) — A request by Anna-Jonesboro Community High School to use some of its COVID-19 relief funds on astroturf for its football field is being rejected. The Illinois State Board of Education disapproved the grant application yesterday. The high school’s board raised eyebrows in the community when it voted in July to allocate nearly half of its almost two-million dollars in ESSER Three funds toward turf for the football field. The move sparked heated debate in the community over what constitutes appropriate use of relief funds.
