Federal Court Strikes Down Previous Redistricting Map, New One Proposed

(Springfield, IL) — A federal court panel is throwing out the redistricting plan Governor JB Pritzker signed in June. Instead, on Tuesday the court ordered other ones proposed in September to act as the starting point for developing a new map. The court invited Republicans and Latino groups to submit their own map proposals as a way to prove their accusations that updated Democratic maps signed by Pritzker are unconstitutional. Democrats used incomplete census estimates from the American Community Survey to create new district lines back in May.
