Matthew McConaughey Won’t Run For TX Governor

(Undated) — Matthew McConaughey is staying out of the Texas governor’s race. The actor made the announcement Sunday in a video message on Twitter. McConaughey said running for the top office in the Lone Star State is “a path that I’m choosing not to take at this moment.” He says he is going to focus his efforts in the private sector by supporting entrepreneurs, businesses and foundations he “believes are leaders.” McConaughey scored well in earlier polls when compared to Republican Greg Abbott, who is seeking a third term in office.

Former Texas Congressman and 2020 presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke has announced he will challenge the incumbent Abbott as a Democrat.
